  2. Western makes it possible for you to submit your supporting documents in a digital format. You will want to be certain that each of your documents is saved as a .pdf file and that its size is less than 3000kb (3mb). Scanning in “grayscale” or black and white may produce the best results. Non-legible scans will not be accepted.  If you are offered admission, you are required to provide one official academic transcript from each post-secondary institution you have attended. An official transcript is a transcript in an unopened envelope with the institution’s stamp on the seal.
  3. If your first language is not English you must include official proof of proficiency in English. Anatomy & Cell Biology accepts both IELTS and TOEFL. The IELTS overall score must be a minimum of 7, with no individual test component below 6.5. The TOEFL overall score must be a minimum of 92, with no individual test component below 20. TOEFL and IELTS scores should be sent electronically to the University of Western Ontario, School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (Code 0984).
  4. Two Reference Letters (collected electronically upon receipt of application). Reference letters should be from faculty who are familiar with your work. Once your application has been submitted, Western will transmit electronic requests to your referees on your behalf. They recommend you contact your referees to ensure they have received these requests
  5. Final admission to the research area in Anatomy & Cell Biology depends on the applicant identifying a faculty member willing to supervise and financially support the Ph.D. candidate for a minimum of four years and also approval from the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Students are advised to talk with and visit the laboratories of potential supervisors. The applicant is responsible for contacting potential supervisors. For entry into the Ph.D. program, applicants must hold an MSc or a professional degree. Research experience is required. However, they strongly encourage students to directly contact faculty members as potential supervisors to learn more about their research and identify a potential fit.
  6. Certain programs may go through an interview process before they make their decision, and applicants will be contacted by the program administrator for an interview. If the applicant’s program of choice does not require an interview process, offers of admission will be sent after all applications are reviewed.
  7. Except otherwise advised by the school, it is helpful to include a resume to advance your application.
  8. Program duration: D. from two to four years (minimum two years after an M.Sc. or 3 years after an honors degree); five years of full-time study for Direct-Entry Ph.D. students.
  9. Program start date: Winter Term each year is January 1, each year; Summer Term each year is May 1, each year; Fall Term each year is September 1, each year.
  10. Application deadline: November 1, each year (for a January start date) February 1, each year (for a May start date) June 1, each year (for a September 1, start date); (Applications received close to or on the deadline may not be approved in time for the desired start date. Note for International Students: Application deadlines do not take into account the time needed to obtain a Study Permit. International applicants should allow a minimum of two terms prior to the proposed start date of their graduate program to obtain Student Authorization).
